On Monday, I went to hear the premiere Disciples of Christ preacher, Fred Craddock. It was a conference for ministers on preaching for Holy Week. Fred is such a wonderful preacher and began the session with a brilliant sermon.
Then he mostly chased his favorite rabbits and told wonderful stories intermingled with good advice about preaching Holy Week.
One of his best lines came when he was saying that we don't have to bring sermon ideas to the Bible. He then said:
"Any good text in the Bible is as pregnant as a cat!"
What a great expression! And it is true. Start with the text. Study the text. Pray about the text. And it will give birth to good sermons... or many kittens!
