Maine Day Four

Today we slept a little late, and left about 9. We enjoyed some more of the farm country on the way north. We went through Reading, Potsville, Frackville, Scranton, Newburgh, and Hartford. We also saw signs for Hometown and Townville.

We traveled through Pennsylvania (check), New York (check), and Connecticut (check). We saw birch trees (check) and many new kinds of ferns along the road.

The sumac bushes were beginning to turn colors in the higher elevation.

Near the Hudson River, Carol called us to tell us that they had a flat on their camper trailer. Ralph insisted that we go on and wait for him at the next rest stop. It only took Ralph about ten minutes to fix the flat.

The Hudson River was pretty exciting for me. I had watched public broadcasting shows about Pete Seeger's crusade to clean up that river. Some day I hope to sail up that river.

We went through Hartford at 5 pm and ran into quite a bit of rush hour traffic.

As we came into the campground we crossed a very narrow bridge, but Darl put us right through the middle.

We stayed at Moose Meadow Campground. On the way here, Carol saw pumpkins for $10 each.

Shortly after we settled in, we had a wonderful dinner prepared by Pat. She had cooked chicken all afternoon in the crock pot.

Ralph and Carol have decided to stay here until Friday when the rest of us will come back through. Ralph is interested in seeing the Connecticut and Rhode Island coast.

Sorry, not much news really on a travel day.
